Claims Examiner II

American National is seeking a full-time team member to join our Health Claims team in Galveston, Texas! The Claims Examiner II is responsible for the evaluation and settlement of Group, Life and Disability claims. The ideal candidate should be a strong communicator who is comfortable in a fast-paced work environment, an effective multi-tasker, an efficient time manager, goal-oriented, and could work both autonomously and as a team. Responsibilities

  • Processes a Disability claim  by reviewing the eligibility, diagnosis, services rendered, employer’s statement and medical records under the plan’s benefits, limitations and exclusions
  • Process a Life claim by reviewing the  Death certificate, eligibility, cause of death, Request for payment form under the plan’s benefits, limitations and  exclusions
  • Update and distribute reporting for this area
  • The individual claim authority limit equals up to $12,500
  • Handles all lines of business with a low to high level, depending on  complexity and stage of training
  • Demonstrates responsibility for investigating coverage issues and/or liability, as needed
  • Ensures compliance with state regulations and requirements
  •  Focuses primarily on proper fact-finding, investigation and resolution of all claims of low-level complexity

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required: 2-year completed degree preferred or equivalent industry work experience may be considered
  • Insurance industry or medical field experience, preferred
  • Completion of America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) or LOMA introductory courses, preferred
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel)
  • Basic knowledge of claims payment system and document routing software, preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
