Premium and Indirect Tax Manager

Premium and Indirect Tax Manager

The Tax Manager is responsible for developing and managing a tax accounting staff, responsible for ensuring all the assigned taxes and payments are properly calculated and filed on time.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise staff in the following tax functions for the enterprise; state and municipal premium taxes, personal property taxes, sales and use taxes, state guaranty association assessments, regulatory assessments, federal and state non-payroll withholding taxes and unclaimed property reporting.
  • Review and sign state tax filings where an officer of the company must sign.
  • Supervise the calculation and/or payment process of assigned payments. 
  • Authorized disbursements for routine payments of the indicated taxes, assessments and unclaimed property payments. 
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. 
  • Interpret instructions for preparing the many different state, county and city tax returns, as well as other compliance items.
  • Maintain the state tax systems.  This requires a working knowledge of the software, the general ledger interfaces and the tax codes of taxing authorities.
  • Identify procedures or methods that need to be changed or updated to match current circumstances. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • Twelve years of accounting experience with four to five years tax experience and four to five years of experience as a manager.
  • Experience with software systems (SAP and OneSource tax products)
  • Requires strong interpersonal skills in order to manage staff
