American National is seeking a talented and experienced application developer for our Senior Programmer Analyst II position, in Galveston, Texas. The Senior Programmer Analyst applies both technical concepts and skills and knowledge of the company’s internal policies and procedures to solve complex problems in creative and effective ways. This job requires that the incumbent be able to complete assignments that extend to new technologies and business processes with little to no assistance from management.

 

Functions:

  • Communicates fluently with the business representatives.
  • Understands business requirements and is able to relate these to the supporting system requirements, producing simple technical specifications for the work to be done.
  • Codes readable, reliable and maintainable programs in any of a variety of languages on multiple platforms necessary to support the team’s assigned systems.
  • Performs unit and system testing using test plans and scripts approved by the business.
  • Reviews test results with the business and makes the necessary adjustments to the deliverable.
  • Obtains an approval and migrates deliverables to the locked-up production environment.
  • Records the time and status to the appropriate projects or support activity for billing.
  • Responds promptly to production issues by serving an on-call rotation for the24-hour support of the team’s systems.
  • Demonstrates the documented Corporate Technology Services values and behaviors.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three or more years of experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three to five years of experience. Similar industry experience preferred. o Basic understanding of insurance products which may include life, annuity, health, and/or personal lines. Also requires basic understanding of business unit procedures and system processes.
  • Successfully complete multiple LOMA courses from Level II — Functional Aspects of Life and Health Insurance series to obtain FLMI: Fellow, Life Management Institute or CPCU courses to obtain their Certificate from American Institute for Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters.
  • Experience with Assembler Programming Language
  • Experience with IMS, CICS, and SOA
