American National is seeking an experienced Actuarial Analyst for our Glenmont, NY  location. The actuarial analyst II position is the second step for actuarial students after they gain experience and some exam success. The responsibilities of this position are similar to those of the actuarial analyst I, but build on the learning foundation that has been established. These responsibilities include performing and communicating complex actuarial analyses such as actuarial exhibits, pricing, loss reserving, financial planning, modeling, other data analyses, and other tasks as assigned. This position supports the core actuarial functions (i.e. pricing, reserving, modeling, etc.) responsible for ensuring profitability, growth and the financial strength of the organization. The management oversight, review and guidance required will be materially less than for the actuarial analyst I.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “CAS code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Prepares summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to home office and field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators
  • Completes processes to perform and document actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Begins to assist less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
  • Prepares for and progresses in the CAS examinations through on-the-job and home study

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
  • Completion of 2 actuarial exams
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Excel

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • R  and/or SQL knowledge 
  • Previous insurance experience to include personal and commercial lines.
