American National is seeking an Actuarial Technician II for our Glenmont, NY or Springfield, MO locations. The actuarial technician II position’s primary responsibility is to test the accuracy of rates and formulas used in issuing policies. The actuarial technician II handles the tasks independently and uses judgement to handle a wider range of complex problems. The actuarial technician II follows industry standard testing techniques and has a basic knowledge of the insurance industry with a focus on policy rating. Initiative and independent judgement are required to search out the appropriate course of action within the context of established policies and procedures. Incumbents may assist an actuarial technician I in obtaining the needed skill set. This is a non-exam track position.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Handles medium to large service requests and project tasks as part of a larger team.
  • Develops test plans, test cases, and scenarios used for policy rating.
  • Applies industry standard testing techniques and best practices when executing test plans, scenarios, and test cases.
  • Demonstrates insurance knowledge, fundamental business concepts, foundational actuarial technician skills, and a working knowledge of technical computer skills.
  • Utilizes an advanced knowledge of Excel in handling complex rating formulas in the rating calculators used to validate premiums in the Policy Admin system, and ensures premiums are calculated correctly in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley antifraud law (SOX) requirements.
  • Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge on a minimum of three lines of business. • Suggests and implements improvements to internal processes and procedures.
  • Reviews requirements and seeks clarity to improve the quality of rate test expectations.
  • Identifies errors, defects, system problems and unexpected results prior to implementation and documents defects and resolutions properly.
  • Understands basic actuarial concepts.
  • Actively communicates and participates with other areas’ line of business team stakeholders in support of project planning and the execution of service requests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Two to four years of experience.
  • Additional Qualifications:
  • CTFL designation and/or strong Microsoft Excel 
  • Strong mathematical skills, problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Ability to analyze and organize technical data
