Actuarial Technician

American National is seeking an Actuarial Technician for our Glenmont, NY or Springfield, MO locations.  This role will test the accuracy of rates and formulas used to maintain and issue policies and will develop a foundation in industry standard testing techniques while also obtaining exposure to the property and casualty business. *Not an actuarial exam track position.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop skills and understanding of how to properly rate lines of business, with focus on accuracy, prior to rate implementation
  • Support property and casualty lines of business by maintaining rate files, entering rates into system(s) and verifying for accuracy
  • Test policy rating (Develop test scenarios, execute scenarios, follow industry standard testing techniques, follow project schedule, validate expected results, maintain rating calculator, document defects/resolutions, resolve basic defects independently, question atypical situations)
  • Provide support to actuarial analysts when applicable (Updating worksheets, competitive comparisons, and completing insurance exhibits)

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, business or related field or equivalent work experience
  • Insurance work experience helpful, not required 
  • Aptitude in math required 
  • Must have strong Excel skills. Access skills are beneficial, not required
  • Organizational skills are critical as this position requires the ability to move quickly from one project to the next
  • Must have time-management and prioritization skills to complete projects by assigned deadlines
  • Must have attention to detail with focus on quality
