Assistant Actuary I
The Assistant Actuary position is designed for actuarial students who have gained experience, had sufficient exam success and educational background, and demonstrated understanding of actuarial and analytical principles to take on more technical and complicated issues. The ideal candidate should have working experience with spreadsheet and database software and feel comfortable communicating information to project team(s) when applicable. As a member of the P&C Research team, this individual will provide support across a variety of property and casualty lines of insurance. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Focus on complex data retrieval and manipulation, predictive modeling, and making decisions based upon the analysis
  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepara actuarial analyses. 
  • Completes processes to perform and document actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Trains less experienced analysts with techniques, principles, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses and predictive modeling.
  • Prepares for and progresses in the CAS examinations through on-the-job and home study
  • Represent Actuarial Services in inter-department teams, knowing when to provide answers to questions and when to bring issues to management

 

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years actuarial analysis experience
  • Completion of 3 or more CAS Exams and a commitment to achieving membership in the Casualty Actuarial Society
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills and database knowledge required
  • Experience with Emblem, SAS, Python, or R is preferred
  • Must be comfortable working both independently and on a team
  • Predictive modeling experience is preferred but not required
