HYBRID OPTION: Associate Accountant (Financial Reporting)

 How you will make an impact:

  • Preparation and analysis of statutory basis financial statements and supporting reports for the New York Life Insurance Company each month for management, and quarterly for the Board of Directors 
  • Presentation of the New York Life Insurance Company financial statement review at monthly preliminary analysis meeting
  • Completion of Quarterly and Annual Statements and supplements for filing with the NAIC and state insurance departments
  • Creation of journal entries with supporting documentation for monthly financial reporting in accordance with the policy
  • Balancing and reconciliation of premium, benefits and various other general ledger asset and liability accounts in Blackline in accordance with the policy
  • Provision of supporting documentation for audits by internal & external auditors and for examinations by regulatory officials


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and/or relevant experience considered 
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrate aptitude for collaborating with team members
  • Ability to work overtime as needed to fulfill the essential functions and additional job responsibilities, which may include special projects


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Insurance industry designations/certifications
  • Professional life and/or property and casualty Insurance accounting experience
  • Ability to understand prioritization and meet strict deadlines
  • Work well in an environment centered around urgent goals
  • Communicate effectively with others (through written and verbal communication skills) throughout the enterprise
  • Ability to perform self-review of work to ensure high level accuracy and proper presentation of all reports
  • Must be coachable, organized, able to multi-task and work both independently and in team environment
  • High-level initiative, follow-through, and accountability for actions
