American National is hiring for a Supervisor of Underwriting Operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Manages/coordinates daily underwriting operations, which include hiring and onboarding employees, scheduling, training, evaluating employee performance, mentoring, and development.

• Conducts  meetings to keep team members apprised of underwriting and company updates. Consistently works with team members to identify opportunities for improvement, generating and maintaining an environment that encourages feedback, growth, and continual improvement.

• Oversees and leads team member productivity to ensure excellent service is provided to American National agents and policyholders. Ensures policy transactions are processed and underwritten in a timely and accurate manner and adjusting employee assignments as needed.

• Demonstrates policy level underwriting and contract knowledge, state specific knowledge, and system, process, and procedural knowledge. Establishes a series of periodic quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with established processes and procedures. Monitors internal controls to ensure all processes and employee actions remain compliant.

• Reviews reports to monitor individual associate underwriter productivity, through-put time, workflows, quality assurance, and the overall performance of individual associate underwriters.

• Responsible for the daily operation of an assigned team of associate underwriters and Underwriting Support personnel.

• Manages the performance of the team in order to ensure the delivery of exceptional service to American National agents and policyholders. Ensures that policies and accounts are maintained in accordance with company, state, and federal compliance standards.

• With the assistance of the training department, plan and manage the training of all employees on various duties and responsibilities.

• Ensures proper backups are in place for all positions and for all departmental responsibilities to ensure the delivery of outstanding service and the elimination of work disruption. Ensures that employees receive training on new systems and products.

• Promotes continuous insurance education and demonstrates credibility through a personal commitment to educational efforts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree.

• At least one year of supervisory/management experience or underwriting experience.

• Additional Qualifications:  Risk management, business administration, management, communication, accounting, or a related field.  Leadership training and experience preferred. Experience in the field of underwriting or operations preferred

 

PREFERENCES:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Completion of insurance continuing education courses  preferred.   
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient at multi-tasking
  • Strong team player
