Associate Computer Operator

 

American National is seeking a Associate Computer Operator. Schedulers manage the job schedules for interactive and batch processing across all computing systems in the enterprise. They work with scheduling systems for various computing platforms, including mainframe, midrange, and micro-computers (servers).

 

This is an entry level position requiring the candidate to learn and perform the following functions at a basic level of proficiency over the course of the first year:

 

  • Monitor and operate computing system’s consoles and peripheral equipment such as disk, tape and printer. Use system monitoring and management tools to ensure the proper execution and performance of the systems, jobs and processes.
  • Perform checkout functions during scheduled system checkouts, upgrades, and changes.
  • Maintain operation and production control logs and documentation.
  • Log and escalate application, system, job, or process problems to appropriate ITS staff.
  • Ability to effectively utilize the high speed printer(s) and print output.
  • Manage the job schedules for interactive and batch processing across all computing systems in the enterprise.
  • Work with scheduling systems for various computing platforms including mainframe, midrange, and micro-computers (servers).
  • Perform all basic scheduling functions on one production scheduling environment.
  • Learn scheduling terms in relationship to the scheduling systems being managed and maintained.
  • Learn key job-cycles across the enterprise.
  • Use existing documentation to perform job duties. Recommend scheduling documentation and procedure changes based on practical application.
  • Learn key processes, jobs, job flows and cycles across the enterprise.
  • Learn all administrative tasks in the enterprise job scheduling systems and assists in maintaining scheduling documentation.
  • Learn all existing standards involving; naming conventions, requirements for implementing new jobs, and requirements for changes to existing production flows.
  • Learns the foundational knowledge necessary to perform job scheduling functions across the enterprise with a basic knowledge and understanding of the systems being managed and maintained.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • Minimum one year of computer operations experience.
  • Highly detailed oriented.
  • Possess strong problem determination and solving skills.
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work after hours, on weekends and to be on-call.
  • Friendly and positive attitude with an ability to foster and create.
  • Strong interpersonal relationships; ability to get along with others.

 

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Possess basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Possess knowledge of ZEKE, ZEBB, and/or ZENA software packages
  • Previous experience in computer operations or computer related field.
