Purpose of Job

American National is seeking a Systems Engineer I for our League City, TX location. The systems engineering positions are highly technical positions with specialization in operating system software and/or one or more subsystems or business applications, such as Windows, Linux, Directory Services, DNS, FTP, SQL, IIS, etc. The systems engineer I is the entry-level position in the job family. The incumbent will manage and maintain Exchange, SharePoint and Office 365 and must be able to resolve issues accurately and comprehensively by drawing upon extensive training and limited experience.

Essential Functions

  • Administers servers and server applications including applying security patches, software updates and OS upgrades.
  • Troubleshoots server problems and take necessary steps to resolve during and after business hours.
  • Participates in disaster recovery planning and testing.
  • Participates in projects which may involve coordination with IT personnel at various locations.
  • Administers and maintains critical business systems.
  • Builds new systems and integrate them into the current network topology with no negative impact on the business units based on defined standards.
  • Documents and maintains procedures regarding responsible systems and servers with little or no assistance from senior team members and/or management.

Additional Qualifications

  • Associate degree.
  • Two or more years of experience in Exchange 
  • Must have troubleshooting and problem resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated success in a high volume, 24/7 production environment.
  • Previous desktop support experience 

Additional Requirements

  • Able to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and expected to respond to wide range of hardware and software problems.
  • Limited travel requirements to remote sites to perform duties as required.
  • Able to participate in subject matter expert related tasks outside of normal business hours.

Preferences/Certifications

  • PowerShell scripting knowledge preferred 
  • Knowledge of maintenance best practice processes and formal change-management procedures.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve server issues on critical business systems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to successfully perform job duties with or without supervision.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete project assignments.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, IP addressing, subnetting, FTP, SMTP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, etc.
