Underwriter Trainee

American National is seeking professional, career-oriented individuals for the position of Underwriter Trainee at our South Shore Harbor location in League City, Texas.  We are seeking individuals who have strong technical skills in addition to exceptional verbal and written communication skills.  This position requires daily communication with both internal and external customers; the ideal candidate should be motivated, articulate, and customer oriented.

 

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new business and renewals.  The person in this position must ascertain what information is needed to make an informed decision, evaluate medical and non-medical facts, and select acceptable risks according to established underwriting guidelines.
  • Understand the importance of production goals and determine what course of action is necessary to insure goals are met
  • Work collaboratively with our agency field force to obtain information regarding risk classification and required underwriting data;
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with our agency field force.

 

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of college or equivalent life insurance experience
  • Completion of LOMA or ALU courses preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology; completion of medical terminology course preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to achieve objectives through interpersonal relationships
  • Candidates must be analytical, organized, self-motivated, and possess the ability to multi-task and work in a team oriented environment.
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to new technology implemented for more effective processing of new business applications.
