Manager, Claims (Auto)

Manager, Claims (Auto)
The Auto Claims Department is seeking an experienced claims professional to lead and mentor entry to mid-level claims representatives, at the New York, campus.

How you will make an impact

  • Supervise the daily operations for the auto claims team, including responsibility for all adjusting activities of team members, training programs, business proposals, technical results, quality, vendor management, and procurement
  • Provide guidance on technical claim handling issues and respond to client concerns
  • Ensure prompt reserving within company guidelines
  • Manage personnel duties such as interviewing, hiring, team member performance, and monitoring time sheets
  • Ensure team members provide prompt, accurate, and equitable claims service   
  • Respond and offer education, support, and guidance regarding client concerns
  • Review and approve settlement authority
  • Prepare and submit reports to leadership
  • Oversee and operate within an allocated budget
  • Conduct quality assurance audits on open and closed claim files to ensure compliance with company guidelines and state laws/regulations
  • Partner with the claims department to support open communication, increasing/enhancing productivity, workflow processes, and positive morale to achieve and exceed organizational, and departmental goals

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and/or industry experience considered
  • Currently hold an active Rhode Island adjuster license or obtain within three (3) months following date of hire (American National will incur fees associated)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-year completed degree in related field (Criminal Justice, Insurance and Risk Management, Business, Communications) or equivalent claims work experience
  • (5-7) years desk adjusting work experience
  • Leadership experience (Mentoring, Coaching, Training, and Overseeing Goals)
  • Working knowledge of CCC or alike valuation program(s)
  • Understanding of statutes, case laws, and auto policy contracts
  • Effective and organized multi-tasker, with the ability to focus when items require your undivided attention for review
  • Comfortable managing difficult conversations with ease and confidence
  • Maintain and demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills, successfully creating and maintaining long lasting and productive relationships
  • Effectively demonstrate the ability to utilize critical analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to negotiate
  • Ability to effectively manage time and provide appropriate follow-up
  • Ability to navigate various computer programs simultaneously on dual computer monitors, while utilizing noted applications (Microsoft Office and internal systems)
