Senior Field Adjuster - Vermont

Field Claims Specialist (Remote - Vermont)

American National is seeking a full-time, field team member, with primary residence in one of the following areas: Rutland, Montpelier or Burlington. The most qualified candidate will have experience working from home, adjusting full-life cycle property claims, and evaluating damage(s) in the field. In addition, the candidate selected should be a strong communicator who is intrinsically self-motivated and enjoys helping others in their time of need.   • Assume responsibility for operation of independent field office within specified territory (Life cycle property claims handling, including field inspections)
      • Territory areas and/or mileage radius – Service territory may involve up to two (2) hour travel, one way.
      • Typical claim volume for this territory – Average field volume is 30 claims per month.
  • Review facts of loss and determine details of coverage
  • Determine investigative needs to assess damages, cause of loss, and coverage- Order police reports, fire reports, determine scope of coverage and document claim file(s) with the results of review and intention for handling
  • Contact applicable parties, obtain recorded statements, explain the claims process and coverage, investigate, and identify special investigation unit (fraudulent) indicators
  • Communicate, explain, and prepare estimates for coverage information with detailed diagrams, reports, and estimates
  • Conduct field investigations, unless independent adjuster assignment is deemed to be in the best interest of the client and company
  • Negotiate with insureds, contractors, and vendors
  • Assess salvage/subrogation potential and monitor to conclusion
  • Complete risk evaluations for both underwriting and claims purpose
  • Maintain and promote ongoing contact with claimants, agents, attorneys, and internal clients regarding the status of claims files
  • Conclude claims in compliance with all state rules and regulations, in a timely manner
  • Assist with claims handling in catastrophe events which may include extended travel/overnight stays, when applicable (Company car will be extended)



  • 4-year completed degree in related field or equivalent industry work experience, preferred
  • Industry designations/certifications, desired
  • Currently hold an active adjuster license or have interest in obtaining following date of hire (American National will incur fees associated / No out of pocket expenses)
  • Five years property field claims handling work experience, strongly preferred
  • Effectively manage assigned territory
  • Remote work experience, with the ability to demonstrate successful work performance, desired
  • Working knowledge of Xactimate or alike estimating programs, preferred
  • Must have the ability to travel-This will include managing catastrophe (CAT) duties when applicable
    • Company car, corporate credit card, lap-top, home-office items (Excluding chair/desk) and cell phone incentive provided
  • Being physically capable to perform field assessments and evaluations, required (Includes the ability to climb ladders and roofs to evaluate damage)
  • As a requirement of the position, the candidate selected must have a clear motor vehicle record and an active driver’s license
  • Must be an effective and organized multi-tasker, with the ability to focus when items require your undivided attention for review
  • Must be comfortable managing difficult conversations with ease and confidence, with a positive and friendly disposition
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong negotiation and organizational skills as you will be tasked with managing your day to day work schedule and goals
  • Must have the aptitude to navigate various computer programs simultaneously, on dual monitors (Including-Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Must have the ability to work independently
  • Must have high attention to detail and thorough follow-up, required
  • Must have the passion to provide the highest quality of customer service to clients-possessing pride when managing claims
