American National is seeking a Risk Modeling Director & Actuary for our Springfield, MO, League City, TX, Galveston, TX, or Glenmont, NY location(s). This position is also available remotely. The Risk Modeling Director & Actuary will lead a team of actuaries and actuarial students in the creation, implementation, and analysis of various Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) models and tools (e.g., catastrophe models, capital models, stochastic insurance models, asset risk models, etc.) Additional responsibilities include establishing and enhancing processes, communicating complex calculations and analyses, and developing not only individual team members but also the team’s ability to collaborate and function efficiently. This position will support the Enterprise Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and the segment specific CROs in carrying out the mission of American National’s ERM as well as its expansion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “CAS code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice
- Prepares and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to home office and field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators
- Completes processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
- Trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required

The ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles is required

Attainment of a fellowship designation. Performance and years of experience may be considered in lieu of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) attainment

At least seven years of actuarial analysis at a performance level of Meets Expectations or better is required

Salary for this position can range from $113,594 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $170,391 for more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
