<span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">American National is seeking analytical and driven individuals who possess an innate ability to effectively negotiate, for a personal lines underwriter (new business and renewal) position. As an underwriter, you will be instrumental in the ongoing education and development of agents, promoting achievement, and continuously seeking ways to improve. Responsibilities

  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Work within assigned authority and company guidelines to make sound risk selection decisions, reviewing acceptable terms and conditions-including pricing, on behalf of the company for new business and renewal applications-continuously driving towards company growth, profitability, and retention objectives
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Mentor agents to employ effective strategy to build and maintain a profitable book of business, addressing service or field underwriting challenges when applicable and providing underwriting procedure and system information accordingly
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Provide positive and ongoing communication with field personnel, assisting with product and coverage information, risk placement, risk mitigation, profitability, and loss ratio analysis
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Conduct timely and thorough underwriting of all assignments in a manner that supports department goals, required file quality, and risk selection expectations 
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Execute loss control expectations including inspection ordering- in an appropriate and timely manner
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Maintain up to date knowledge of state regulations

<span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Qualifications

  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, industry experience may be considered in lieu of completed degree
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Must have ability to effectively negotiate, authorize sound decisions, critically analyze information, and maintain an elevated level of organization
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Deliver professional service that creates a collaborative and consultative environment
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Possess enthusiasm to continually develop-including initiative to obtain industry designations (AINS, AU, and CPCU)
  • <span style="font-family:"Georgia",serif">Flourish in a fast paced, self-driven environment
