American National is seeking an experienced Actuarial Analyst III for our Galveston, Texas location. The position performs and communicates complex actuarial analyses such as actuarial exhibits, pricing, reserving, financial planning, modeling, other data analyses, other tasks as assigned as well as assisting less experienced actuarial analysts. This position supports the core actuarial functions (i.e. pricing, reserving, modeling, etc.) responsible for ensuring profitability, growth, and the financial strength of the organization.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “SOA code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Prepares summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to home office and field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators
  • Completes processes to perform and document actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Assists less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
  • Prepares for and progresses in the SOA examinations through on-the-job and home stud

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Four (4) year completed degree (Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field)
  • Credit for at least four Society of Actuaries preliminary exams
  • Two years of actuarial work experience – life/annuity company or consulting
  • At least one year of experience with actuarial modeling software

 

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • AXIS Actuarial System experience
  • Annuity modeling experience
  • Indexed Annuity experience preferred
  • Experience with actuarial pricing/product development
    • Highly desired: product filing/compliance exposure & product implementation exposure
  • Strong spreadsheet and database skills 
  • Programming experience (SQL, VB, or R) 
  • Must be comfortable working both independently and on a team
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
