Director, Enterprise Architecture

American National is seeking a Director of Enterprise Architecture.  This role provides leadership in the design development, framework, and implementation of software systems to align with the organizations IT infrastructure with business process/data to improve the efficiency and productivity of business operations.  You will be responsible for all the architecture domains, including business applications, data, technology, software development and security architecture and serve as the primary integration point between technology architecture and other parts of the enterprise.  You will directly manage all Domain Enterprise Architects and will be required to collaborate closely with IT Leadership to develop target architectures, overall IT strategies, and Enterprise Architecture standards and processes.
Location options: Onsite in Springfield, MO; League City, TX; or Galveston, TX


What Will You Do?

  • Create long-term strategic enterprise architecture programs and vision for all business and IT systems. Partners with Senior IT staff and business leaders to act as an advisor to IT strategic planning efforts.
  • Communicate complex topics regarding solutions and related projects to audiences both with and without deep technical skills
  • Recommend optimal infrastructure architecture to host the platforms
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Product Owners, and other key stakeholders in driving the architecture to meet our product vision goals
  • Promote the use of a shared infrastructure and business application roadmaps to reduce costs and improve information flows
  • Oversee the management of Enterprise Architects and/or Solution Architects to establish technical solutions and roadmaps to allow the company to make high impact long range decisions
  • Evaluate new technology platforms and components
  • Participate in the establishment of reference architecture and domain models
  • Lead discussions of complex solution design trade-offs and drive conflict resolution 
  • Encourage innovation, creative thought, and new ideas / solutions
  • Evaluate the total cost of ownership and return on investment of various architecture alternatives
  • Maintain knowledge of third-party software vendors to leverage complementary offerings and effectively compare solutions

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10 to 12 years of experience
  • Five to 10 years of supervisory/management experience
  • Understanding of data center infrastructure products and data center architecture 
  • Experience with cloud migrations to MS Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience in design and development of software, n-tier architectures, web services, and object-oriented design
  • Familiarity with both C#/.NET and Java-based frameworks. 
  • Understanding of SQL databases systems and alternatives
  • Demonstrated proficiency and skill designing and maintaining large enterprise software applications in high load, highly available environments
  • Demonstrated proficiency and skill in enterprise application integration strategies
  • Excellent listening and communications skills, both written and spoken, including ability to discuss and present information logically and concisely
  • Experience with Agile/scrum and DevOps methods and tools
  • Experience presenting and collaborating with senior and executive-level leadership

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Financial Services and/or Insurance Industries
  • Demonstrated proficiency and skill with Mainframe platform design and architecture
  • Demonstrated proficiency and skill with both C#/.NET and Java-based frameworks
