Programmer Analyst

 

The CyberLife Team within Life and Annuity Systems is seeking a Senior Programmer Analyst II for our Galveston, TX location. 

The successful Senior Programmer Analyst II is an experienced application developer who can pair technical concepts and skills with knowledge of the Company’s internal policies and procedures to solve complex problems in creative, effective, and efficient ways.  Significant initiative and independent judgement are required to complete these tasks within the context of established goals and objectives. This incumbent will primarily be responsible for enhancements, new development, and maintenance of CyberLife, our life insurance policy administration system. This role may also be a fit for Math or Actuarial Science professionals who are looking to begin a career within programming.

 

Essential Functions and Duties:

 

•    Communicates fluently with business representatives
•    Understands business requirements and can relate these to the supporting system requirements producing technical specifications for the work to be done
•    Codes readable, reliable, and maintainable programs 
•    Performs testing of code changes
•    Reviews test results with business representatives
•    Provides optimal service to all internal and external customers
•    Responds promptly to production issues by serving in the team’s on-call rotation for the 24-hour support of the team’s systems
•    Works occasional night and weekend hours to meet target dates

 

Qualifications:

 

•    Bachelor’s degree
•    Four or more years of application development experience preferred
o    Advanced proficiency with programming in an IBM mainframe environment with an emphasis on COBOL and JCL
•    Experience in these areas is a plus: 
o    CyberLife administration system experience
o    DB2 experience
o    Experience with job scheduling tools, such as ZEKE and ZENA
o    Life insurance knowledge, especially Indexed products
•    Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
