Claims Technical Specialist (Auto)

American National is seeking a full-time (Onsite, Albany NY. or remote) technical professional who will support the Claims Department as an automotive subject matter expert. How you will make an impact 

  • Perform technical audits and quality assurance to maintain claims guidelines, ensuring consistent processes, and providing the utmost level of service to both internal and external appraisal sources
  • Analyze, prepare, perform, and write estimates/supplements from photos and/or complete a full reinspection
  • Review and analyze subrogation demand packets, applications of appropriate betterment, and identifications of prior damage
  • Obtain resolution of disputed damages, estimates, or supplements from all methods of inspection
  • Negotiate changes to estimates/supplements and complete/validate total loss evaluations and documents
  • Manage processing for salvage vehicles and property for maximum recovery
  • Maintain a high level of professional communication and quality of service through effective claim monitoring, efficient management of work ques, and thorough follow-up with file documentation
  • Utilize claims and estimating systems
  • Provide training to less tenured employees and/or other business area(s)
  • Maintain vendor relationships to ensure quality
  • Identify coverage issues and/or liability, when applicable, addressing with the claim adjuster(s)
  • Maintain continuing education (CE) courses for required state licensing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Currently hold an active (Rhode Island) adjuster license and (New York) appraiser license or obtain following date of hire (American National will incur fees associated/No out of pocket expenses)
  • One year of auto claims handling or related technical work experience (Technical trade positions, considered: Autobody, Claims handling, Mechanical positions)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four (4) year completed degree in related field (Criminal Justice, Insurance and Risk Management, Business, Communications)
  • Claims handling experience (Auto)
  • Insurance industry work experience
  • Work experience with CCC / Audatex or alike estimating systems
  • Completion of Inter-industry conference on auto collision repair (I-CAR) / Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications or applicable insurance designations
  • Must be self-driven with the ability to provide an elevated level of customer service
  • Must be comfortable working in an office setting (Desk office space) for the duration of your shift
  • Ability to work independently, finalizing sound decisions
  • Effective and organized multi-tasker
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable managing difficult conversations with ease and confidence while maintaining a helpful and friendly disposition
  • Strong negotiation and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and follow-up
  • Aptitude to navigate various computer systems simultaneously (Microsoft Office applications and internal systems)
