Director & Actuary

This individual will be responsible for producing actuarial analyses supporting P&C planning functions which impact a broad array of internal departments including finance, reinsurance & risk, product, and marketing.  A successful candidate will demonstrate agility in navigating, evaluating, and utilizing data sources from across the enterprise; an ability to incorporate frequent feedback from various stakeholders; and technical competence in assessing the need for and implementation of process improvements and enhanced analytics.   This individual is expected to successfully operate with minimal management oversight, review and guidance.



• Applies actuarial principles and maintains appropriate documentation in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “CAS code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice

• Prepares and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to home office and field management, other American National departments, consultants, reinsurers, and regulators

• Completes processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately

• Trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses



• A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required

• The ability to demonstrate sufficient progress in understanding and applying basic actuarial principles is required

• Attainment of a fellowship designation. Performance and years of experience may be considered in lieu of Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) attainment

• At least seven years of actuarial analysis at a performance level of Meets Expectations or better is required
