American National is seeking a Director & Actuary for our South Shore Harbor office in League City, TX or our Downtown Houston, TX location. In this position you will support traditional life valuation and financial reporting of the reserves for GAAP, STAT and Tax. You will be responsible for valuation model maintenance and regulatory matters. This position is a leadership opportunity, and you will have direct reports.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Applies fundamental actuarial principles in analyzing company and industry data to prepare actuarial analyses in accordance with the “SOA code of Professional Conduct” and the Actuarial Standards of Practice
  • Prepares and presents summaries of actuarial analyses for distribution to American National Senior Management as well as several 3rd party stakeholders including consultants, reinsurers, and regulators
  • Execute and maintain documentation of controls around the valuation process.  Additionally, will closely with the Actuarial QA team and internal external auditors to answer all valuation related requests in a timely manner
  • Completes processes and improves methods for performing and documenting actuarial analyses promptly and accurately
  • Trains less experienced analysts with spreadsheets, databases, and sources of data used in actuarial analyses
     

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related field with a strong mathematical background is required
  • Attainment of a fellowship designation. Performance and years of experience may be considered in lieu of Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) attainment
  • At least 7 years of actuarial and life valuation experience
