Tax Manager
Are you an accounting professional who has interest in leading a team? American National is seeking a full-time, high performer who is in active pursuit of becoming a manager. As a Tax Manager you will lead by example, guiding four team members, overseeing state and local tax compliance and reporting. You will also lead initiatives to improve current processes and procedures.
Onsite Placement Locations: League City, TX.
How you will make an impact:
- You will be responsible for directing the accurate and timely filing of state and local income tax returns including, insurance premium tax returns, sales and use tax returns, and property tax returns
- Lead monthly state income tax accounting process including the review and approval of state income tax accruals and estimated tax payments
- Prepare/maintain complex apportionment analysis to assist in project planning and safeguard compliance requirements
- Research and provide guidance on state tax law changes
- Work with outside advisors to research state tax impact of business restructurings and other planning projects to support leadership decision making
- Manage projects from kick-off through completion, assuring that key milestones are met and approached with a sense of urgency
- Review of annual 1099 reporting and withholding tax
- Develop and maintain close business relationships with various departments throughout the Company including Financial Reporting, Corporate Accounting, Investment Accounting, Treasury and Legal
- Mentor/lead team members
Qualifications:
- Five years' experience in state tax compliance and reporting
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and tax research tools
- Supervisory, Management, and/or team leadership experience
- Ability to work hours outside of normal business operations during peak periods (Typically January-March annually)
Preferred skills:
- Insurance industry experience
- Public accounting experience
- Licensed CPA.
