Vice President & Controller

American National is seeking a full-time, Vice President & Controller to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the accounting function for the organization. This critical role involves managing financial reporting, technical accounting, and internal controls. As a key member of the finance team, the VP & Controller ensures accurate financial statements, compliance with regulations, and effective risk management.

 

Onsite, Placement Locations: League City, Texas
Relocation benefits will be assessed accordingly 


What will you do? 

Lead and refine all aspects of the accounting function including monthly close, technical accounting, financial reporting, SEC & regulatory reporting, US GAAP, statutory reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and other financial-related functions
Maintain robust financial reporting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and statutory regulations
Ensure that the company's financial statements are accurate, complete, timely, and in compliance with both GAAP and Statutory requirements

Deliverables include:

  • Quarterly and annual statutory reporting - NAIC, State Departments of Insurance, rating agencies 
  • Statutory audits
  • GAAP audits

Direct financial operation while providing strategic fiscal management and leadership for all finance and accounting activities
Foster a positive and engaging work environment, building strong relationships, promoting collaboration, and ensuring employee satisfaction to produce an overall motivated and valuable team
Mentor and coach team members to foster their professional growth and development; provide constructive feedback, guidance, and support to enhance individual and collective performance

 

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting
Industry professional who has demonstrated knowledge 
Supervisory/management experience
Ability to respond appropriately in high-pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor
Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills 
SOX compliance experience and knowledge of best practices in internal controls
Certifications: CPA
Ability to work hours outside of normal business operations

Advanced Excel skills
