Director, Agile Project Office

American National is seeking a Director of our Agile Project Office.  This leadership role will be responsible for supporting the implementation of processes and policies with the goal of transforming traditional project practices to Agile methodologies. As part of this transformation initiative, you will work closely with the Business Transformation Office, IT Leadership, and Business Leaders to apply agile methodologies across the Enterprise, providing leadership to direct the cultural shift necessary for Agile adoption. In addition, you will lead Release Train Engineers and Scrum Masters in the execution of strategic Agile initiatives across the Enterprise.

Location options: Onsite in Springfield, MO; League City, TX; or Galveston, TX

 

What Will You Do?
 

  • Help establish and maintain governance structures to align strategic business outcomes with the enterprise agile execution processes
  • Coach Release Train Engineers and Scrum Masters to enable successful delivery of Agile initiatives
  • Ensure that teams and programs are well managed through the creation of controls that optimize delivery, minimize risk, and maximize throughput
  • Deliver hands-on training and coaching of defined agile practices to individual teams and programs
  • Define and implement scaled agile techniques and practices when necessary. Advance adoption through partnering and influencing change
  • Collaborate with individual teams/programs and organizations to discover their needs; Plan and deliver instruction and coaching while ensuring alignment with their organizational strategy
  • As a partner with the Chief Business Transformation Officer, provide leadership and guidance to facilitate cultural change necessary for Agile adoption
  • Develop and lead internal communities of practice/Center of Excellence to improve skills to better support the team
  • Provide leadership and expertise to the advancement and improvement of agile practices within the organization

 

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 14 or more years of work experience
  • Five to 10 years of supervisory/management experience
  • 3+ years experience as an Agile Coach or in similar leadership role to scrum teams
  • 5+ years experience performing as an Agile team member, such as Scrum Master or Product Owner
  • Agile certification(s) from Scrum Alliance, ICAgile, Project Management Institute, SAFe or other agile organizations
  • Proven track record for successfully leading midsize to large projects with high degrees of complexity
  • Must have strong communication and people skills
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycles and methodologies
  • Ability to influence change across both teams and all leadership levels through relationship building and collaboration
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation, and conflict management skills
  • High level understanding of enterprise and domain architecture
  • Ability to attract, select, and develop talent to build a strong organization

 
Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Experience in Financial Services and/or Insurance Industries
  • Experience leading transformation from traditional waterfall project life cycle to adoption of Agile methodologies
