This position utilizes critical thinking and communication skills to translate business goals into data management functions and requirements to assist in the design and implementation of business intelligence (BI) deliverables, This includes requirements gathering interviews; participating in planning the delivery of BI solutions; explaining to executives, stakeholders, and users the design structure and capabilities of BI deliverables; and testing the implementation of BI solutions for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with user needs. The specialist should oversee the creation and adherence to standards for required design documents. This position should be a subject matter expert in multiple subject areas or data marts and data delivery, business intelligence, and data warehousing best practices. The position manages a small to medium team/individual contributor, provides support and guidance to team members, assigns work and monitors the progress, assesses performance, and assists with goal setting for direct reports. This position performs functions independently and manages team members’ administrative and HR needs.
What You’ll Do:
- Coordinates with team members to assess when units of work can be completed with consideration of competing priorities and tracks units of work through inception, development, testing, and end-user communication, using appropriate tools.
- Acts as a liaison between users and team management and/or executives to ensure work is done in the proper order, according to priority.
- Identifies overarching issues and helps the team understand the total impact.
- Ensure final requirements are clear, complete, and agreed to by the appropriate parties; and performs high level analyses of requirements and detailed research for data quality and/or reporting issues, triaging and escalating questions and issues to appropriate team contacts, providing insight and suggestions to aid developers in quickly resolving issues.
- Performs data analyses and data profiling tasks assigned using technical tools to access and categorize data from various source systems and existing BI repositories.
- Completes the data design for deliverables, mapping source system data to the desired outputs.
- Ensures appropriate parties are involved in requirements gathering sessions with executive, manager, director, stakeholder, and business users; oversees interviews to ensure the questions necessary for successful delivery are answered to analyze business processes; translates them into user needs and goals; and facilitates requirement gathering sessions with users.
- Explains the design structure and capabilities, appropriate changes, issues, and analysis results to executives, managers, directors, and business users.
- Responds to support questions promptly, courteously, and accurately with analysis results and any issues or changes made.
- Oversees testing efforts to ensure all items are tested before the release and performs quality assurance checks to validate for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with user needs on data and/or deliverables for release.
- Contributes to standards and best practices for quality assurance checks.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent work experience (10 years or more) in the business or technical world.
- Eight years or more of experience in developing or documenting data warehouses/data marts or business intelligence solutions.
What You Have:
- Experience reading and documenting data models using SAP PowerDesigner or similar tools; or experience translating business requirements into data model modification needs.
- Knowledge of data quality, data cleansing, data transformation best practices, and data modeling techniques for target structures such as star schemas, snowflake schemas, and highly normalized data models.
- Knowledge of one or more enterprise source systems and the data contained therein (Ex. CLAS, LOGIC, POS, Cyberlife, Policylink, PDA, BPM, PEGA, iSolutions, ParisQuote, etc.).
- Experience developing or maintaining metadata including source to target mapping documents and data definitions.
- Experience or education in writing moderately complex Structured Query Language (SQL) commands.
- Experience developing with business intelligence reporting tools such as Cognos, MicroStrategy or Tableau.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Work and PowerPoint). Knowledge of business (insurance, marketing, accounting, and/or administration) processes and procedures.
Salary for this position can range from $96427.50 for candidates who are minimally qualified through $120,529 or more highly qualified candidates. Candidates outside of the range are encouraged to apply, and will be considered based on experience, skill and education.
