Trainer (Underwriting Services)
American National is seeking a full-time Trainer.  The ideal candidate should be an industry professional who is interested in being an integral part of the creation, development, and progression of an enterprise-wide training program. The selected candidate will utilize both knowledge and skill to assist newly hired and existing employees with their development.


  • Design, develop, and deliver training curriculum and materials on a wide array of industry, corporate, and departmental subjects
  • Deliver traditional classroom and remote training sessions throughout the enterprise
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and manage the orientation and training of new and existing team members
  • Provide departmental training/mentoring for new and existing employees on a variety of subjects including, but not limited to the following: desk management, systems training, guidelines, philosophy, acceptable risk selection, pricing, loss control, and various operational processes
  • Develop Learning Management Systems (LMS) and video-based modules for various lines of business (Policies, processing requirements, and procedures)
  • Work with leadership to identify and coordinate training sessions, develop individualized training plans for team members and recognize opportunities for process improvement
  • Maintain department knowledge-based materials, including procedures, process documentation (SOX), SharePoint sites, MS Teams, and business continuity.



  • High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred; Industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in the insurance industry
  • Current or prior experience as an Associate Underwriter or Underwriter preferred
  • Prior work experience in a training and development role; considered a plus
  • Must be comfortable communicating in front of small or large groups
  • Must have comfort level with creating presentations
  • Must have familiarity with prioritizing tasks by urgency
  • Must enjoy both an independent and highly collaborative work environment
  • Must enjoy working with people one on one, possessing patience during the process of training, and maintaining a friendly disposition
  • Demonstrated interest/commitment to pursuing professional insurance education; (AINS, AU or CPCU)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products

PLEASE NOTE: Given qualifications, another job level may be considered.  Position may be filled in the NY (preferred) or MO location.
